I was recently interviewed about how I support couples in couples therapy here in Dubai, Abu Dhabi (UAE) and internationally in my online sessions.

We explored the implications of the expat effect and how long-term committed relationships can break down or begin to experience challenges with many couples. I explain how the dynamics within couples and other romantic relationships may need couples therapy to learn how to communicate more effectively.

The article starts to explore how understanding whether you are secure, anxious preoccupied, dismissive avoidant or fearful avoidant can determine how you think, feel and behave.

In my experience many couples whether they are married or in a long-term relationship start to experience a break down in the relationship when attachment wounds are triggered, a third party (affair) is involved, a lack of validation of their partners emotions and a break down in communication.

Couples therapy and other relationship therapy whether your single, divorced or currently going through a break up can help you navigate your attachment style and why you do, think and feel what you do.

Therapy with an attachment focus can start to help you navigate your own and your partners behaviours from a safe confidential space to explore and learn how to relationship better.

I always state that being a partner and a parent are probably the two most important jobs we have in our life’s, yet we never have any education of training on how to do them. In every other area of your life, you attend education, training courses or programmes; sometimes for years, but this does not happen when we are learning how to be a girlfriend, boyfriend, wife or husband!
